data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines (POTS). SDSL
sup-
ports data rates of from 192 Kbps to
1.5 Mbps when receiving data
(known as the downstream rate)
and from 192 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps when sending data (known as the upstream rate). Thus, the "symmetric," or two-way quality" of the line. Data can transfer at equal speeds both up and down at a higher rate than standard ADSL, providing a must closer level
of service to T1s and partial T1s.
Also, the phone company treats them as business data lines, providing a
much quicker response time when there is trouble on the line.
