Avedon Carol writes at her Sideshow that, "Joyce Appleby and Gary Hart discover that Hari Seldon didn't plan for the emergence of the Mule."

That refers to Isaac Asimov's wonderful Foundation series of books.

Still here... ~ March 23, 2006

Job search is off and on. My contract job 54 miles away is ...postponed because a more-detailed drug-test they want to conduct. My possible job nine miles away is spooked because I took a contract job because of foot-dragging from the local group.

Meanwhile, taxes must be prepared. Chores must be done.

...life goes on.

Words to learn history by ~ March 6, 2006

Some things never change:

"Such attacks... are carried out by a small and very violent group... that, by its targeting of civilians, has created an impact well beyond its size."

"The perpetrators can successfully (agitate) ...because the postwar political process has deepened the rift between (those) who formed the mainstay of the ousted regime and now fear discrimination and marginalization, and (those) who ...exult ...that, after decades of oppression and discrimination, they finally have seized the reins of power."

This scenario has played out over, and over, and over again during the thousands of years of written history and the thousands of years of prehistory before that.

How's that old song go again?

Well I don't know why I came here tonight / I got the feeling that something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I'll fall off my chair / And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, / here I am Stuck in the middle with you

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you / And I'm wondering what it is I should do
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face / Losing control yeah, I'm all over the place
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, / here I am Stuck in the middle with you.

Well you started off with nothing / And you're proud that you're a self-made man
And your friends they all come crawling / Slap you on the back and say
Please, please.

Try to make some sense of it all / But I can see it makes no sense at all
Is it cruel to go to sleep on the floor / Yeah I don't think that I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, / here I am Stuck in the middle with you.

Envious of the leisure of creativity ~ March 3, 2006

Some folks..., maybe, ...just have too much time on their hands. This site is really... intriguing and beautiful (and a little... schizophrenic).

Anybody else see Stephen Barnwell's work before?

"Hey, you bastards! I'm still here!"

"Something prickly and hard to eradicate" ~ March 2, 2006

...on course as previously: lost in the fog.

Ah, but that reminds me of another famous line from a movie:

"Hey, you bastards! I'm still here!"

...great movie. Read the book.

Lost... ~ March 1, 2006

...there are some options that require more exploration than just a casual perusal. There are too many times when our fiction and entertainment lull us into the illusion that the adventure will wrap up nicely and with appropriate denoument.

There is a class I'm considering but it is 38 weeks long, full 8-hour days and requires the family to make significant sacrifices and spend considerable money until such time as I graduate.

Such attentions require that I turn away from those greater macroscopic issues over which I have no control and "tighten the circle" as it were over those actions and conditions that I do control.

...and keep in mind the old adage: The powers that be will throw up any and all obstacles in front of a worthwhile endeavor.
