Eduquest Can Help Educators Build Democratic School Environments

Teachers and Administrators say and do things which have an enormous impact on the learning opportunities of their students. Wise and prudent decision making based on the constitutional concepts of equity, rights and responsibilities can help to create a safe and legal learning environment that supports students as well as school colleagues.

The workshop "Democratic School Management" can be tailored to fit your needs from a full day program to an after-school presentation. The workshop will provide you with a variety of management strategies drawn beginning with a legal foundation for rules and decisions and including how to design consequences that do not shame students and help them to do it differently next time.

Eduquest of Oregon and Dr. Barbara McEwan Landau will provide you with information on how to apply the suggested strategies to a variety of school-based issues from school-wide policy to curriculum implications.

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to work with a skilled professional educator who has the experience and expertise to help administrators and faculty develop strategies that will promote fairness as well as a safe school environment by emphasizing equity, good communication skills and democratic practices.

The workshop will provide theory as well as practical, hands-on suggestions for implementing the ideas that are presented.
