The Ojai Valley Gun Club offers the opportunity to participate in a wide verity of shooting experiences.
One element of the club is dedicated to the study, collection, restoration, and shooting of original and replica
black-powder firearms. Typically, this includes percussion and flintlock rifles and pistols reflecting the period
from the Revolutionary War to the Civil War prior to the introduction of the modern cartridge gun.
MUZZLELOADERS:
Regular monthly shoots are held the 3rd weekend of each month (execpt October), starting at 9:00a.m.
Only muzzleloaders of the traditional design are allowed. Modern "in-line" actions are not accepted at these shoots.
Every year, during the 3rd week of October, the Ojai Valley Gun Club devotes the entire complex to the Sespe Rendezvous.
This is a re-creation of the time when wagons loaded with trade goods and essentials from St. Louis would meet
the mountain men and trappers to trade their pelts for supplies. The sprit of this meeting is honored through
shooting contests (featuring paper targets and a trail walk), knife and tomahawk throwing, and other events.
A Traders Row features traders displaying and selling goods consistent with period. Camping areas are established
for motorhomes (tin tepees), campers, and tenets with a separate primitive section for those who enjoy portraying
the lifestyles of the mountain-man and trapper. These festivities are not only entertaining, but are educational for the whole family.
Everyone is encouraged to wear period dress, but it is required only of participants in the primitive area. There is a camping fee;
however, there is no gate fee for day visitors. Visitors are more than welcome to attend.
Black Powder holds a business meeting on the 1st Wednesday of the month and a social get-together on the 3rd Wednesday
(except in October) of the month at Santa Barbara Bank and Trust.
